Info
Boublil and Schönberg's world-famous composition is a worthy musical stage adaptation of Victor Hugo's a century and a half old monumental and poignant novel. The adaptation has experienced a significant past and enormous success worldwide by now.
In the three decades since its premiere in London, it has been played in 42 countries around the world, translated into 22 languages, and its awards include the Laurence Olivier, Tony, and Grammy Awards.
Schönberg’s overflowing music touches the deepest registers of human soul and gives a new quality to passion, desire for freedom, pain and charity revealed in the novel.
“Arranged for the soul”, this music brings to life the emblematic figures of the fateful, restless France of the 19th century, the shattered lives deprived of their dreams.
It is the imprint of a bygone era that even today holds a valid mirror up to us: our heroes are victims, seeking redemption, they are lost and unable to forgive, they long for love, they are conspirators and opportunists. But the hope for the ascension of spirit and soul lives in all of them. The power of their words is ensured by the exceptionally beautiful translation of Tibor Miklós.
